Are your papers in order?

Jenn and I met with an attorney today to begin drafting the important stuff: wills, health care power-of-attorneys, and living wills.

If you haven't done this for yourself yet, stop reading and call an attorney. It took a health issue for us to do it. Fortunately, it's just an issue so far, not a crisis. Don't wait until it's too late. Make your choices now so that they're legally enforceable.

And it wasn't even that expensive. We've spent more on dinner and drinks.

Take care,

Michael

I'd like to add reinforcement to Michael's statement: no one wants to think about their mortality, but it's the one guarantee in life let's face it--you CAN get out of taxes! Being in the hospital as a P.A. has given me a front row seat to the agony of a family making an incredibly difficult decision with no input from the patient about what they would want done or not done. The kindest thing you can do for your loved ones is to have the discussion. Also, in Pennsylvania a Living Will is NOT a legally binding document, just expressing your wishes. A Durable Power of Attorney, where you appoint someone to represent you, is the only way your wishes can be legally inforced.
